My Biker Jacket Diary – Embracing The Wild Side

640-AdjSE-V2-F5844In 1955, a certain silver screen actor named James Dean starred in the film ‘Rebel Without a Cause’. In this film, Dean’s character Jim Stark continued in making the biker jacket a symbol of the adventure; danger and rebellion.

There’s no denying that a badass young man in a leather jacket has sex appeal. In fact, is there anything sexier than a heartthrob on his motorcycle with bad attitude and a cigarette dangling from his lips??
Talking about the rebel and outlaw, I have a confession to make…
Years ago, while I was still living in Sydney’s North Shore, on a Christmas Eve, I arrived the train station near home only to realize that there were City Rail ticket inspectors checking tickets. As it was Christmas Eve, ‘Who’d care about the ticket?!’ I thought; and of course, I had a free ride without purchasing one and found myself facing a two-hundred-dollar fine if I walked towards to the gate and surrender.

‘The only way to get out of this,’ A rebel voice in my head saying, ‘…is to jump the fence!’. So I followed my own advice, walked to the end of the platform and walked through some broken beer and wine bottles in between weeds and rocks…
Until I reached a wire fence (just like the fence in this picture), and soon faced a new problem – ‘How to get over this fence that is taller than me?’ – there was nobody who could give me a hand.
So I started praying. In about fifteen minutes, there came a young guy who had just gotten off the train and walked by on the other side of the fence. Straight away, I knew that he was sent by my guardian angel.
‘Hello~’ I called this guy. He looked confused.
‘Can you please help me?’ I asked politely. Young man nodded.
Once I got his support, I threw my high heeled shoes to the other side of the fence. This kind young man gave me his helping hand and I climbed up to the top of the fence ready to jump.

It went much smoother and quicker than I expected. Although my toes hurt, within minutes, I found myself free again! I did explain to this kind stranger about my behavior and he then walked away very quickly. Until today I’m still wondering which part of my rebel story scared him off?
Over all these years, even after I moved away from the North Shore, I’m still telling friends about my ‘outlaw’ experience. Funny enough, none of my friends cared about the ticket I skipped, instead, everyone was so excited to hear the details of my fence-climbing-jumping act – in a Moschino cocktail dress and high heels!!!

These days, with the Opal Card newly introduced to Sydney commuters, the chance to catch me jumping a fence is even lower. However, every now and then, I love to put on my biker jacket and embrace my wild side.

    • Thank you Leani. ๐Ÿ’ž
You know, when I had this picture taken, I did not plan to reveal this story. How amazing that things just fall into the right places themselves!

P.S. You might discover your wild side when you least expect it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  1. Seems to me Vivienne in this smile inducing story, you were in fact very much a ‘Rebel With A Cause’ with your successful efforts evading those pesky ticket inspectors to say nothing of scaling a wire fence in your escape path.

    • Haha~ Greg, “Rebel With A Cause” – well said!! And my little rebel story has attracted friends to that ‘infamous’ station (won’t reveal it in public) just to see how brave I was – I’m not as demure as they thought after all!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. What a story! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ You really are a girl after my own heart. I’m in stitches over you jumping over with the guy’s help. Haha!
I love your featured image, ever the beautiful red ๐Ÿ”ฅ hot rebel!

    • “Red hot rebel” – Awww, your sweet compliment has lighten up my day Cara!! I’ve always wanted to be a red hot rebel!!! ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘ฟ๐Ÿ‘ˆ
I’m happy to hear that my little rebel story makes you laugh. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ™Œ I guess that we all have a wild side in us which needs to be accepted and embraced. Agree?

  3. You’ve got a rebel heart! Moschino dresses and high heels cannot hide that. All of us should embrace our inner rebel side from time to time. I absolutely loved your story!

    • I love your feedback Sara. Yes let’s “embrace our inner rebel side from time to time”.., I might not be fit enough to climb and jump the wire fence, but I’m secretly proud of myself whenever I see a fence like that! ๐Ÿ˜€ X X
