When I saw this ’90s picture of myself, my memories of wearing this pair of purple jeans came vividly alive to me. I remember having to rip the jeans myself as it was in trend. I also owned a green pair which I never tore, but that’s another story.
Frankly speaking, I’d much rather be in coloured jeans than those neon leggings, which were just as popular in the ’90s.
Tying a shirt around our waist, well, everyone was doing it back then! I guess I was channelling Vivien Ward (aka Julia Roberts) from Pretty Woman (see the image below).
They were mostly plaid flannel shirts, but my shirt here was not a random shirt, it was a tie dye shirt and tie dye clothing was also hugely popular during the ’90s. Plus I was so in love with the colour purple, therefore I did the shirt and jeans purple double dose!
This location shot was taken by Taiwanese photographer Tsong-Chii Lynn. It did not appeal to me that much back then but now this photograph is growing on me. I love Taiwan’s black sandy beach and the fading away mountains as the background.., they remind me of Chinese ink paintings.

I always mention the word BALANCE when referring to GOOD HEALTH, but this word applies to the fashion world as well. Those inspired by fashion enjoy experiencing ALL the different looks from around the world. Interestingly, most of these designs are recycled through the generations with minor adjustments to reflect modern times. There is much genius found in previous generation’s fashion and design.
Yes fashion/trend most definitely repeats itself. For me, the important balance would be giving an old look a new life.

I’m so glad to receive your positive feedback Margie. The truth is, these ’90s film negatives have discoloured and thanks to the throwback of the ’90s fashion trends that it had forced me to scan them and save them.
