My OOTN For HCC’s Year Of The Dragon Chinese Lunar New Year Banquet

Australian photographer Kent Johnson and Chinese-Australian writer Vivienne She at HCC's Year Of The Dragon Chinese Lunar New Year Banquet.

The Haymarket Chamber of Commerce hosted the Year of the Dragon Chinese Lunar New Year Banquet on Thursday, the 15th of February 2024 at The Eight Restaurant in Haymarket. As one of the biggest and most loved Chinese/Lunar New Year celebrations in Sydney, Kent and I were thrilled to be attending.

First thing first, what to wear? For this festive occasion, Kent chose a joyful pink shirt and a red tie to go with his beige suit.

The moment we were confirmed about taking part in this celebration, I had been fetching a suitable outfit for the occasion. And I was torn between a deep red lace dress and a contemporary chipao (qipao). This chipao, which I bought from our Singapore travel is rather special. Not only does it have red, blue, and white horizontal stripes, but it also has a red floral motif on its mandarin collar and right chest. Judging by this photo, you’d know which one I went for. This summer has been rather hot and extremely humid in Sydney. We were blessed to have a cool change on that particular day, and that was when my pink velvet cardi – a vintage Plein Sud – came in handy!

The festive dinner gathering went on for five hours. More than 380 guests attended. To find out more about the celebration, our 10-course feast, and view 19 images, simply head to White Caviar Life’s event post.
