A few years ago, for no particular reason, I became obsessed with those all-white little summer dresses.
‘Every girl wants a white dress!’ This was an instant reply from a male friend of mine who heard about my obsession. Of course, his point of view was, every girl dreamed of a white wedding dress.
‘Really?’ Well, actually I never thought of it that way!
Well you’d think it would be easy to find a simple white summer dress, wouldn’t you? However, up to 2011 I still hadn’t seen one that ‘made my heart beat’….
Time went by and I moved on… When the Australian winter came in 2011, I went to Paris to indulge in its summer charm.
One day I was only browsing around in Printemps Department Store Paris during its on sale season in August. And just when I forgot about my dream little white dresses, I spotted plenty of them in different designs and they were ALL on sale!!
The end result was, I bought not one, not two, not three but four white summer dresses in one go and I was very pleased with the on sale discount – a bargain I should say!
It’s like anything in life I guess,… when we are obsessed with something and chasing after it, we don’t seem to get anywhere near it… As soon as we let go of it…, somehow it comes to us when we are least expected – just as the Tao says.

I love one piece dress like what you wear. You have your own style and always make it look perfect. 🙂
Thank you for your compliments Lingy! Isn’t this one-piece summer white dress fresh and girly?!!! ^.^
I must say I do not have a little white dress. Maybe this Summer. But do love yours it is so cute! :=}
Oh yes this dress is ‘cute alright’! 😉 Not only has it a lantern shaped skirt; I also love its laced details around the waistline.
Ha! I’m not sure that is really how Tao works but it’s a great story. William Burroughs wrote about how once something is highlighted to us we see it more; although it seems like a special coincidence; perhaps that is what happened with the white dresses? Lovely!
I’m glad that you like this short & sweet fashion story Kent!
Well, no matter it’s Tao or Zen… What I was trying to say here was about ‘letting go’!! When we finally let go of our desire, we see the world differently and things – in this story for example, those little white dresses – came to me naturally. If things are meant to be, it will eventually happen. Don’t you think?! 🙂
The Tao, a special white dress (or in this case 4 of them!) and a lesson on acceptance and what is meant to be…a lovely story indeed.
Awww… Thank you Greg! I believe that we can see the Tao pretty much EVERYWHERE if we live and see with our hearts open. X
So true. When you stop looking, it finds you. Whatever that may be.
Ditto! 🙂
This is such a pretty and effortless dress, love how you paired it with the red lipstick!
Thank you for your sweet comment Camila. The red lips was once (and hopefully still is) my trademark! X
Very cute dress! I love the flowers behind you, it makes for a striking image!
Yes indeed Hanh. Every summer I look out for these Yellow Iris.., I’m obsessed with them! X
