Beside a camel three quarter length coat my beloved grandmother bought me when I was a child, which I wore a lot back then as a little girl, I didn’t quite develop the love for this style of coat until much later on in my life.
In 2002, I decided to get myself a black three quarter length coat before heading to Paris for a several months’ language learning holiday.
It turned out that my black coat was warm enough for European Autumn, about which I was very pleased.
Months after I returned Sydney, one day I caught up with my female friends over a cozy tea party. I had prepared a little album of my European photos which I had brought with me to show around. ( YES! This was how we shared pictures before Facebook time! )
I remembered there was one photo, for which I received the most compliments… It was me standing infront of one of the fountains at Place de la Concorde in Paris, and my purple and yellow floral skirt was about 4 to 5 inches longer than my black coat. Well, the compliments from my friends were mostly about the contrast between my black coat and the striking colourful skirt; my knee-high boots also received lots of attention! I knew there and then, if I had worn an ankle length coat, it couldn’t have had the same impact!
And that’s exactly what I like about a three quarter length coat – it leaves enough room for us to play with the look; such as : adding a pair of patterned pantyhose; wearing a pair of in-trend boots; or we can do a ‘Carrie Bradshaw’ – fresh up the whole look with a large, quirky and unexpected brooch!

I heard the Sydney is having a hot Autumn. That is really strange we have just started with the continuing warm weather here, which is nice. I agree a nice black classic cut quarter length coat or longer in colder climate is a must have. You can dress them up with wonderful scarfs and match with cute beret or beanie. Either or it is a winner. Stay warm my friend. xoxoox
Thank you for your comment Ann-maree.
Yes, beside one week we had mid-winter kind of chills in May, the rest of May was pretty warm! It did feel funny when I was blogging the winter wear in 25C warmth Sydney yesterday!
I guess the winter fashion will have to wait a bit as I see people wearing singlets and shorts. (It’s 26C today!) 🙂
I like what you guys are usually up to. Keep up the amazing works vivalaviv! I’ve added you to one of my favourite blogs.
So happy to hear it John! Thank you!
Lingy
是阿! 七分身外套並不容易詮釋..,我個人覺得需搭配有跟的皮鞋或皮靴
若要看來修長些,可不必將扣子扣上, 試試看吧!
Love this! Your coat is so beautiful! 🙂
